During the last hours of the national campaign, labor leader and senatorial candidate Atty. Sonny Matula visited four barangays in his hometown before proceeding to the neighboring towns of La Paz and Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
In Prosperidad, Matula met with leaders and members of the Farmers Alternative for Self-Reliance Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FASRMCO). “Cooperatives help boost incomes of the poor and greatly impact rural development,” said Matula.
Headquartered in Barangay San Vicente, FASRMCO is one of the largest cooperatives in the Caraga Region.
In a meeting with Mr. Ruben Isiderio and his team, Matula discussed key points of his labor and rural development agenda.
“We need the modernization of agriculture, the completion of the agrarian reform program, and a government stimulus package for rural MSMEs—including nano enterprises,” Matula said.
Mr. Isiderio stressed that many farmers urgently need capital for machinery, production, processing, and storage facilities. According to him, the cooperative requires at least ₱10 million to ₱50 million in investments, which are currently beyond their reach.
Matula reaffirmed his support for former Vice President Leni Robredo’s 2022 campaign proposal of a ₱100-billion stimulus fund to aid farmers, nano enterprises, and rural MSMEs.
“Kung gusto natin ng tunay na inclusive growth, kailangan nating paunlarin ang kanayunan at bigyan ng suporta ang mga maliliit na negosyante at magsasaka,” Matula said.
After his visit to Prosperidad, Atty. Matula proceeded to Butuan City to attend the Agusan National High School Alumni Homecoming.
