PSA Strengthens Agricultural Data Collection Through Field Visits to BAI Research Center and Duck Farms in Quezon

QUEZON, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), through its Central Office and PSA Quezon, is stepping up efforts to improve agricultural data collection and statistical reporting through a joint field visit to the National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center of the Bureau of Animal Industry (NSPRDC-BAI) and two Itik Pinas duck raisers last October 12–13, 2026.

The initiative aims to strengthen coordination with key agricultural stakeholders, identify opportunities to improve data collection and statistical reporting, and assess whether existing data parameters accurately reflect current industry conditions.

Among the participants was Dr. Rene Santiago, Center Chief and a Career Scientist of the Department of Agriculture, together with selected beneficiaries of the Itik Pinas duck-breeding program.

The Itik Pinas, a type of mallard duck, is recognized for its egg-laying potential, with production reaching approximately 250 to 260 eggs per year.

Through direct engagement with research institutions and duck raisers, the PSA seeks to enhance the accuracy, relevance, and reliability of agricultural statistics. These efforts are vital in providing timely and dependable data that can guide government planning, policy development, and programs supporting the country’s livestock and poultry sectors.

The field visit underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, and agricultural producers in ensuring that official statistics remain responsive to the realities and evolving needs of the industry.

Reliable agricultural data, stronger policies, and better-informed decisions remain essential to advancing Philippine agriculture and supporting the livelihood of local farmers and raisers.
